Sell Fries Anomalies Guide: How to Spot and Handle Them
A grounded reference to the anomalies players have actually observed in Sell Fries — the 8 p.m. night window, the darkening-screen warning, the outdoor pursuer and the shop dark figure — with the shutter and go-inside responses that work, plus the strange night events that are not confirmed anomalies.
In Sell Fries, an anomaly is anything the game sends after you once night falls. Night begins at 8:00 p.m., and that is the window when anomalies can start appearing. Two threats are actually documented in play:
- The outdoor night anomaly — if you linger outside after dark, an anomaly eventually comes after you. Your warning is visual: a dark filter gradually covers your screen.
- The dark figure at your shop — a creepy figure (players call them "ghosts") that shows up at night. The response is direct: close the shutter immediately before it's too late.
Ignore the first and you can die; ignore the second and the ghosts reach the counter and eat your fries. Here is how to recognize each one and what to do.

What counts as an anomaly in Sell Fries
The game's own page gives you the daytime loop — collect potatoes, make fries, serve customers, upgrade the kitchen — and closes with the warning "But be careful when Night falls...", with Anomaly listed among its official tags. The official text names no creatures and no events: it anchors the whole anomaly theme to nightfall. A Japanese overview built on that same description calls the feature the game's night anomaly (夜の異変) and sums it up as "potatoes by day, caution at night."
In practice, the switch is time-based: nighttime begins at 8:00 p.m., and that is when anomalies can start appearing. Nothing in the documented play points to anomalies during the day — morning hours are for selling in peace.
One naming note up front: the game gives no official names for the night entities. One guide calls the shop visitor "this creepy dark figure"; a full playthrough calls the night entities "ghosts." Whether that describes one entity type or several is unconfirmed — but as you'll see, the response is the same either way.
The anomaly window: the darkening screen means go inside
The outdoor anomaly announces itself. While you are outside at night, a dark filter gradually covers your screen — the guide's advice is to take this as a warning sign. Stay outside too long and an anomaly will eventually come after you.
What to do: when the screen starts darkening, stop whatever you're doing and head back inside — then stay there. A full playthrough's practiced rule is exactly that: no need to chase the ghosts, no need to go back out — just go inside and wait out the night. Move carefully on your way in, too: the entities jostle you if they get close, and in that same run a player who got bumped around at night died before morning.
What failure costs: death. The flip side is comforting — daytime stays completely safe. Once morning comes, there are no ghosts and selling resumes as normal.
One honest caveat: no source documents how long is "too long" outside. There is no stated safe timer after 8 p.m., so treat the darkening screen as your only reliable cue — the moment you notice it, go in. Also, a ghost round is not guaranteed every night: one player sat through an awaited ghost round and no ghosts showed at all.
The dark figure at your shop: close the shutter immediately
The second confirmed anomaly comes to you. The guide's instruction is blunt: "You'll also encounter this creepy dark figure at your shop. Close the shutter immediately before it's too late."
A full playthrough shows what that looks like under pressure. The ghost round arrives around 8 o'clock, and the player repeatedly slams the shutter closed — sometimes not in time. The stakes are your stock: ghosts that reach the counter eat the fries. On day 5 of that run, ghosts were actively eating the player's fries, and "this ghost eats again" cost them more stock and money later the same night.
Two observations from that run worth knowing, with the caveat that they come from a single player's experience: each night brought more ghosts than the last, and no attack is certain — one awaited night produced no ghosts at all.
The response, condensed: the moment a dark figure appears at the shop, shut the shutter — immediately, not eventually. Every second it's open is a chance for something to reach the counter. If you're caught outside during a ghost round, the dark-screen rule above still applies: get inside and stay in until morning.
Quick response reference
| Anomaly | How you recognize it | What to do | If you fail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outdoor night anomaly | A dark filter gradually covers your screen while you're outside after 8 p.m. | Head inside immediately and stay there until morning; don't chase it | It comes after you — a player who got jostled at night died |
| Shop dark figure ("ghosts") | A creepy dark figure arriving at the shop during the night round | Close the shutter immediately and keep them out | Ghosts reach the counter and eat your fries — stock and money lost |
Making nights easier
These aren't anomaly responses, but they're documented ways to soften the whole night system:
- Buy the clock from the shop. It lets you skip nighttime and jump straight to morning — you sidestep the anomaly window entirely and get your free daily upgrade choice sooner instead of waiting through the night.
- Keep investing in helper robots. Upgrade the ones you have or buy more so the shop keeps running and earning; the full playthrough bought another robot after rough nights for exactly this reason.
- Play with a friend. The guide recommends it because the game is challenging solo — managing the shop while hunting potato piles for the hidden key is a lot for one pair of hands.
- Watch the road — this one is not an anomaly. Incoming cars can kill you when crossing, and one player died on a crossing (noting the game has no crosswalk) and swore off that buying spot entirely. Traffic is a daytime-sized danger that never takes a night off.
Strange night events that aren't confirmed anomalies
A full playthrough records a few more after-dark oddities. None of them is labeled an anomaly by any source, so treat them as unexplained night behavior — and note that the go-inside rule is your safest default for all of them:
- Power cuts. Once night fell, the electricity kept cutting out repeatedly in one player's run — they were scrambling with the lights around midnight, in-game time. No source says whether this is an anomaly event, a ghost effect, or just ambience, and no fix is documented; you simply cope until morning.
- Blocked exits. A player who stepped outside at night got chased back in, and the ghosts wouldn't let them out again. That's reported as part of the ghost chase, not as a separate confirmed event.
- An unrecognized "customer." One entity showed up that the player couldn't identify or operate at all ("I don't know what this is... I don't know what it's for"). Unclassified.
- A fast-running "cow." A fleeting mention of a cow-like creature sprinting around and being shot for cash — possibly a garbled auto-transcription, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Sightings we don't count
Two circulating claims deserve a caution before you go hunting for them. An "anomaly ending" exists as a video title, but the video's actual content shows no anomaly gameplay — so there's no documented ending route to follow. Likewise, the (Anomaly) in the game's name and tags confirms the theme, not any specific event.
And a scope note: the cases above are the anomalies documented in actual play — not a claim that the list is complete. If the experience gets updated, the anomaly identities, triggers and consequences may change along with it.
