Sell Fries How to Play: Beginner Quick-Start Guide

Learn how to play Sell Fries: peel, cook and serve your first customer in one full shop cycle, then handle upgrades and nightfall safely.

Your first useful goal in Sell Fries! [Anomaly] is one complete sale: take a potato from the pile, peel it, cook it, collect the finished fries and hand them to a customer. When your cash balance ticks up, you've learned the whole game in miniature. The official loop runs in exactly that order — Collect Potatoes from the Pile, Make Fries, Serve Customers, Upgrade your Kitchen — and it ends with the one caveat you should take seriously from minute one: be careful when Night falls.

Your first sale, step by step

You don't need to buy anything before starting. After the entry countdown, head to the potato pile and work through one cycle. Every station announces what it wants through its own on-screen interaction prompt — on PC the creator's tutorial uses E, so on touch or console simply use the prompt your device shows.

  1. Take a potato from the pile. Walk up to the piles of potatoes and grab one.
  2. Peel it at the peeling station. Carry the potato over and work the peeler until the potato is fully peeled — the peel has to come completely off before the next stage accepts it.
  3. Cook it, then collect the fries. Take the peeled potato to the cooking station and press the interaction key (E on PC) to cook. When it's done, interact again to collect the finished fries.
  4. Serve the waiting customer. Deliver the fries to the customer at the counter. Don't dawdle: in one narrated run, a customer left after roughly 50 seconds unserved.
  5. Check your cash, then repeat. That same narrated first sale paid 20 cash — treat that as one observed sale rather than a guaranteed price for every order. Success is easy to recognize either way: the sale completes and your cash balance changes. Then walk back to the pile and start again — the loop is designed to be repeated.

Each station has its own quirks, so if one step trips you up, dig into the detail pages for collecting potatoes, making fries and serving customers.

What the loop is working toward

Running the cycle earns cash, but cash isn't the finish line. A hidden key is buried among the many potato piles, and finding it takes a lot of searching while you keep the shop running — that's the parallel goal behind the game's "Find The Key" tag. While you dig, grab special potatoes in colors like gold and blue: they sell for more than regular ones. For the money side in depth, see how to earn money.

Cash goes straight back into the kitchen. The principle is simple: invest in the right tools and upgrade them whenever you can, so every loop pays more, faster. In one playthrough's quick start, the first purchases were a bigger potato peeler and a bucket, followed by the upgrade that increases how much you can peel at once; later buys included helper robots, a cash boost and an automatic fryer. You don't need an optimal build order yet — pick whatever fixes your current annoyance, and compare cost against effect before buying. When you're ready to plan properly, start with the kitchen upgrades overview.

Nightfall and the day cycle: cues to watch

The official description closes with "be careful when Night falls," and a detailed beginner playthrough shows what that warning looks like in practice. Watch for these shifts:

CueWhat it meansWhat to do
It turns 8 p.m.Night begins; anomalies can start appearingTreat this as the official warning point — be careful from here on
A dark filter gradually covers your screen while you're outsideYou're exposed; stay out too long and an anomaly will eventually come after youStop lingering outside and get back to the shop
A creepy dark figure appears at your shopAn anomaly is at the shop and time mattersClose the shutter immediately, before it's too late
A new day beginsYou get to choose one free upgradePick something that makes your work faster and more efficient
It hits 8 a.m.The shop opens for buying essential itemsStock up — and watch for cars crossing the road, because getting hit can cost you your life

These cues come chiefly from that one playthrough, with the official description independently backing the nightfall warning — so expect the day/night rhythm to hold, but trust what your current build actually shows for exact prompts and timings. Anomalies deserve their own preparation: see when night falls, the anomalies overview and how to survive the night.
